Phil’s just completing his first year of a Cert III Signage apprenticeship at Swan TAFE. We know he’s been busy putting his newly acquired signage skills to good work in the factory and I asked Phil what’s been the highlight of TAFE so far.
"I really like it” says Phil, “everyone has made friends and Alan’s a good dude” [Alan being the lecturer at Swan TAFE!].

“Recently we’ve been doing a logo project for the 'Iron Horse” restaurant. First we had to design the logo with Corel Draw which was new and interesting for me as I haven’t done much design stuff before. We then printed our logo onto clear Perspex so that we could project the image onto the wall and hand paint the design. We painted the base colours first, and built up the colours into a finished design.”
And the favorite bit of the Apprenticeship so far? "That’s easy," says Phil, “I would do brushwork all day given half the chance, but I know it’s not used much anymore which is a real shame."
We reckon Phil is right to be looking pretty pleased with himself!
