Precision and dedication pay off with APN's digital gantry relocation

27/2/2016

Relocating a 32 metre span digital gantry is no easy feat, and as I drove under it yesterday morning when I was entering Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at Perth's International Airport I felt a real swell of pride.

Project managing this relocation and the complexities of dismantle, engineering, traffic management, night works and reinstallation required precision and dedication - which our team displayed in spades. Well done to you all - you know who you are!  A full Case Study will be published shortly, but in the meantime the photos below tell a story.

RCR Goes Up, Up, Up

Say hello to our latest illuminated building sign to alight the skies of Perth's CBD.

RCR Tomlinson commissioned us to create a 7 metre statement sign and this morning, with testing completed in the early hours, the city's skyline changed once again to greet the new signage. Check out the images which reveal the sign in various stages of production - from our manufacture and testing in our workshops to installation using rope access services.

Winners are grinners - our 5S Programme

Housekeeping is always a tricky concept - especially in a busy workshop and office environment. Keeping everything in its place, and a place for everything, is a wonderful concept but the reality is often less achievable. That's why we introduced our 5S programme in 2015.

For those not familiar with 5S, it's a Japanese concept first developed to describe how to organize a work space for efficiency and effectively by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area and items, and sustaining the new order. Our 5S programme is based on the 5S methodology and includes regular rewards for those who are demonstrating real talent in the areas of:

S - SET IN ORDER
S - SORT
S - SHINE
S - STANDARDISE
S - SUSTAIN
So far we've had over 10 awards made  - below are a few examples of our winners so far.

We've also had some interesting staff feedback on their version of the 5S's - this one courtesy of Wazza who had clearly had a SUPER day out installing.

This is his take on an ''alternative" interpretation of his S's on the day:

We particularly love the S - SMILE - at the end!

SAND: Its an everyday thing, good because less ticks!

SMASHED: myself so hard in the face that I dislodged a tooth!

SCAR: Have about 27 on me from ticks... lots of others from rugged, tough, extraordinary work + mental scarring from smashing myself in the face.

SORE: see SCAR

SATISFACTION: 1 of the reasons I love install...rhymes with pride!

Just my thoughts, but I am SMILING as I type... SINCERELY!

Safety Priorities in Signage

5/2/2016

There's a good reason why we take safety so seriously at Signs & Lines... and as this recent article outlines, when we are dealing with large signage structures it is imperative that they are well designed, properly manufactured and installed such that they are robust enough to withstand any environmental factors that may arise.

Our thoughts go to the families of the three people that tragically perished in this incident, and a moments sad reflection to all those involved in this disaster. http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/aussie-signs-fined-250000-over-deadly-swanston-street-wall-collapse-20160204-gmlcjj.html

Safety matters at Signs & Lines - and is our key priority. Our OSHMS (Occupational Safety & Health Management System) is well developed and regularly reviewed both internal audits and externally certified by safety consultants.  Our safety slogan this year is 'Think SMART before you START' and, as with most things in life, careful planning and organisation is a valuable way to mitigate the risks that we encounter every hour of every day. The workplace is no different.

As much as we can do as an organisation, at the end of the day our motto is that it is down to each individual to take responsibility for safety - of themselves and others.
