How Pikachu Will Take Out of Home Media & Advertising to New Levels

While it's only been a couple of weeks, Pokémon Go has already proven that user behavior is changing. As other media channels continue to fall out of favor, mobile and OOH are natural partners - and we predict this will shape an important evolution in digital signage applications too.

For those that have missed the recent Pokemon action, here is a quick review of how it is impacting the OOH marketing space. For the full article follow: http://www.digitalsignageconnection.com/pokemon-gooh-how-pikachu

Out of Home (OOH) advertising is once again in the spotlight thanks to Pokémon Go.

Augmented reality, or the live view of a physical environment superimposed upon computer-generated elements (e.g., Pokémon Go), will further bridge the physical and digital worlds and benefit the OOH advertising industry. The same user that was once willing to pay a delivery fee and wait an hour at home is now spending an average of 33 minutes a day walking up to three miles to collect Pokémon!!

This would represent exposure to billboards, transit advertisements, digital signage, wallscapes and faces—all ads that cannot be turned off by ad blockers. Advertisers will increasingly need to be out of the home to reach consumers of augmented reality-will-take-out-of-home-media-and-advertising-to-new-level.

Large digital banners on Channel 7's building in Osborne Park.

Two elevations of the building have been dressed to impress with an aluminium frame housing digital printed banner skins installed with a flex face extrusion system.

The banner's overall size of 2m wide x 4.7m high, installed 13 metres above ground level, gave our install crews a fair challenge - but one that they relished!

Designed to be updated, we will undoubtedly be seeing a few more familiar Channel 7 images displayed over the coming months and years.

Big, bold and beautiful - Waikiki pylon signage

22/7/2016

Can something be big, bold and beautiful? Well, actually, yes!!

This monster digital signage shopping centre pylon is currently under construction in our workshop and is proving to be a beautiful, gigantic, work of art.

The combination of steel engineering, 6 tenant light boxes, LED display screens spanning 3.8m x 2.5m,   3-dimensional acrylic lettering and digital display have created a double sided pylon that is literally pushing the boundaries of our workshop. The people featured in these pictures below are reduced to mere dots showing the scale of this sign that will eventually stand over 9 metres tall at the entry of a shopping centre in the south metro region.

Testing is underway as we speak... before this sign makes it's final journey to a resting place at Waikiki Shopping Centre. More to be revealed in a follow up instalment next week.

Digital Signage puts a positive spin on Cancer Cures

Innovation - Engagement - Action

Digital signage delivers these 3 key marketing components on the streets of Australia with a 'Stop the Spread" outdoor campaign that demonstrates how every donation gets real results in real time. Over 5 minute cycles a melanoma grows on the screen and the only way to reverse the cycle is by making a donation.

This recent project aims to demonstrate that every dollar counts when it comes to finding a cure, helping the Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) create awareness and fundraise.

The melanoma cell animation reacts to each donation made on the digital signage PayPass Tap And Go by shrinking down considerably before it starts growing again. If multiple people tap and make a donation, the melanoma continues to die away until it's barely there.

There is tremendous capacity for other charities to benefit from similar styled digital signage solutions.

From Acorn to Oak - showcasing the work of our Apprentices

Our year 3 Apprentice, Phil, has been very busy at TAFE recently. Here's a bit of a run-down on what he's been up to in his own words ...

"One of our projects this year at TAFE was to create an old Pub sign with a modern spin.

I firstly designed the sign using Sign Lab. The background board was then cut out on the flat bed router using 10mm MDF sheet. After the board was sanded and primed, it was ready for the burgundy finish. A spray mask was then used to create the dark pink outline around the sign.

The title ''Captain Phillips" was laser cut, using 5mm MDF, and then primed and painted black. I used vinyl cut lettering for the boarder around the painting and for the yellow inside the lettering. The final image in the middle was painted with water based acrylic on a 5mm MDF canvas."

We think it's a rather good result - check out Phil's other work on the images below. Well done Phil:)

Business Cards through the Ages

In a recent sort out of my business cards I came across a few old Signs & Lines cards which made me think about how much we've changed over the last 15 years (see left).

Our intent has always been to portray the company's professionalism through a corporate styling that is visually interesting.

From the top to bottom of the page, the visual evolution is clear - from when we took over the business in 2001 with a greeny, swirly logo, to the five styling manifestations since then.

In 2002 we introduced the ''eye" to visually reinforce our strapline of 'eye-catching signage solutions'. This has stayed with us faithfully ever since and continues to be a key element of our branding.

In 2007 a re-design added a harlequin effect to both sides of the card, which was paired with a simplified 'white-space' design, cleaner ''eye'' logo and new font.

Just recently, in 2016 we have morphed the cards once again to incorporate our S&L Digital Signage division on the reverse of the cards. Our intent is that the Signs & Lines and S&L Digital Signage brands work side by side both logistically and creatively - something like nature's beautifully natural symbiotic relationships!

As some people ponder the questions ''What's in a name?", I wonder "What's in a business card?"

Giant Kiosks are invading!

Kiosks are growing like beanstalks in our S&L Digital Signage area at the moment - literally pushing up the ceiling! These uber high kiosks stand at 2.5 metres high - and as the picture below shows there was only a matter of a couple of inches between the top of the kiosk and the ceiling of our S&L Digital testing unit.

These three are destined for the new sunken bus terminal in Perth's CBD. Our team have been busy assembling the technological components including an 84" screen. QC testing has just concluded and  these kiosks are ready for final packaging prior to despatch.

Finished photos of the kiosks in their final resting place to follow shortly.
