SIGNPOST: Our people, their viewpoints

Making any sign usually involves a heady mix of great vision,
numerous ideas and countless hours of skilled labour – well blended to come up  with a decent finished product. Working in the background at Signs & Lines are many wonderful people putting thoughts into action, and in our regular ‘SignPost’ feature, we’d like to share some of their viewpoints with you!

BUYING POWER ...
Let’s start with our ‘’tenacious terrier’’ Purchasing Officer, Rachel!  Rachel has worked at Signs & Lines for over 6 years and currently is in the hot seat when it comes to sourcing products, purchasing, evaluating suppliers and vehicle maintenance. When Rachel was asked the following questions, here are her thoughts:

Girls are undoubtedly better shoppers than men. Based on this fact, does that make them better Purchasing Officers?
‘’After years of sharpening our elbows ready to barge our way to the front for the EFY sales it would be a difficult task for anyone to out -shop a girl with a decent purse and an acute need for some shopping  therapy!! And since we all know that men don’t need therapy, it is us girls who know how to get the best bargain and procure small miracles!!

No, but being serious ... it is my belief that you are either careful with money or you’re not. I know plenty of sales that know how to give a credit card a good workout and who are bargain savvy!!  So I would have to say NO, it doesn’t make girls better ... there are just more of us femmes who get more practice at getting more for our money".

Outside of work what’s your favourite thing to buy and why?

'’Concert Tickets!! Because they are a great investment in a memory that once you have, no one can take it away and you can relive it over and over again... value for money!  See...even when I’m not at work.....I’m at work!! LOL.

Apart from Cirque de Soleil (which was brilliant), the best musical concert I’ve been to was Alicia Keys – whose vocal perfection just mesmerised me. I went with my sister and it’s one of the best memories I have - even though I ended up with horrendously sore calves from walking the wrong way to the bus, a tender stomach from laughing so much and major cheek ache from smiling! It certainly put a different slant on ‘value for money’!"

SIGNS & LINES goes green

On World  Environment Day 2013 – Wednesday 5th June - Signs & Lines are  proud to announce our latest step towards positive environmental action. In a  business decision that married our risk management strategies with our  responsibility for sustainable development, a Solar Power solution has been  installed and is ‘LIVE’.

The installation of a 40KW Solar Power system on the factory roof will help Signs & Lines to reduce its reliance on daytime grid power whilst improving its environmental credentials. Over 150 solar panels have been  installed which, on current forecasts, will offset over 48,000kg of  CO2 emissions every year.

Deciding to invest in Solar Power came at the  same time as a retail rise in electricity cost and uncertainty in future commercial power prices.  Infinite Energy was able to satisfy Signs & Lines that the investment was a sound one and facilitated a modern solar leasing arrangement that proved the right way to unlock the benefits of the project.

‘Infinite’s project management of the Solar Power system was excellent’ observed Josie Simmonds, Business Manager, ‘they guided us through the process and couldn’t have been more professional every step of the way”. For more information the system click here  : http://www.infiniteenergy.com.au/commercial/case-studies/smes/signs-lines/

An integrated SMA remote monitoring solution allows Signs & Lines to pinpoint the actual energy output from the system at any time -  and being based in Perth, Western Australia (one of the sunniest places in the world), the system is forecast to produce 59,043 kWh every year.

In terms of the company’s signs made with sustainable intent, Josie comments, ‘I feel that the Solar Power system is a positive choice for the environment, and as such, Signs & Lines have started a journey of eco-actions that both respects our natural resources and has genuine impact. Hopefully our clients will also see value in this holistic investment, for their sake and those of future generations’.
